RecordPoint Unveils Free AI Governance Tool to Rein in Shadow AI

The rush to adopt artificial intelligence inside businesses has left many companies flying blind. Employees are already bringing AI into their workflows at breakneck speed, often without permission and sometimes in defiance of outright bans. Now RecordPoint, a Seattle-based data and AI governance platform, is offering a free tool designed to help organizations put guardrails in place before things spin further out of control.

The new product, called RexCommand, acts as a central command hub for AI oversight. It’s pitched as a way for companies of any size to roll out AI quickly without sacrificing compliance or security. Instead of letting AI policies collect dust in a PDF, RexCommand transforms those documents into enforceable rules across the organization. The system inventories AI deployments, detects shadow AI, and applies real-time controls to prevent risky use.

The launch lands at a moment when many companies are struggling to catch up with their own workers. A recent survey from Anagram found that nearly four out of five employees already use AI tools on the job, while almost half admit to using banned applications. A separate study from labor law firm Littler showed that even when organizations have governance policies in place, most lack the means to enforce them.

Anthony Woodward, RecordPoint’s co-founder and CEO, said the new tool is meant to close that gap. “RexCommand gives organizations the tools to close the gap between policy and practice, ensuring AI is deployed responsibly, securely, and in compliance with global regulations — without slowing down innovation,” he said. “Policies don’t protect organizations; enforcement does.”

Analysts say that distinction matters as regulators tighten their grip. Philip Harris, director of governance, risk and compliance services and software at IDC Research, described the platform as a rare example of end-to-end AI oversight. “With AI adoption accelerating rapidly and employees increasingly turning to unauthorized AI tools or ‘shadow AI’, organizations face mounting compliance and audit pressures across all departments. RexCommand by RecordPoint is one of the few agent-based platforms that provides comprehensive visibility and end-to-end AI governance, establishing a centralized compliance framework that protects enterprises across every industry,” he said.

While RexCommand is free, RecordPoint isn’t shy about the bigger play. The tool serves as an entry point into the company’s broader AI Governance Suite, a paid product that adds data pipeline governance, metadata infrastructure, and workflow automation for scaling AI safely.

For now, RecordPoint is betting that by making governance accessible to all, companies won’t have to choose between rapid AI innovation and the very real risk of regulatory fallout.
