ChargePoint Secures FedRAMP Approval, Expanding Its Reach in the EV Charging Sector

ChargePoint, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging network solutions, has announced a significant milestone in becoming one of the first EV charging solution providers to receive Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) approval from the U.S. Federal Government. This approval marks ChargePoint’s cloud software products as meeting the stringent FedRAMP requirements, with plans for their inclusion in the FedRAMP marketplace soon.

FedRAMP is a comprehensive framework that establishes high standards for data security, cloud hosting, and continuous monitoring, specifically tailored for federal customers. ChargePoint’s cloud software, which offers customers real-time access to data like power usage, energy costs, station activity, and session fees, now aligns with these rigorous federal standards.

Teza Mukkavilli, ChargePoint’s Chief Information Security Officer, highlighted the significance of this achievement. “As a long-standing partner to various U.S. government levels, providing EV charging infrastructure and software, this authorization underscores our commitment to high security standards,” Mukkavilli said. “It not only demonstrates our capability to meet stringent security requirements but also opens up potential multi-million-dollar opportunities in the U.S. federal government sector.”

Established in 2011, FedRAMP is a strategic initiative by the U.S. government, designed to ensure a secure, risk-based approach for the adoption and use of cloud services by federal agencies. It emphasizes security and the protection of federal information, encouraging agencies to adopt modern cloud technologies. ChargePoint’s recent approval by the General Services Administration (GSA) for the FedRAMP Authority to Operate process is a testament to their compliance and dedication to security.

In addition to FedRAMP approval, ChargePoint has also achieved the AICPA SOC 2 - SOC for Service Organizations: Trust Services Criteria certification. This confirms the company’s commitment to securely managing company, customer, and driver information.

ChargePoint’s latest accomplishment with FedRAMP approval not only enhances its reputation in the realm of EV charging solutions but also positions it strongly in the federal market, promising a secure and reliable service for a growing number of government clients transitioning to electric mobility.
