This is part of a running series for #IWD2021. We sat down with women leaders across the industry for a Q&A to get their insights on the state of women in cybersecurity. Recognize Women Leaders in the 2021 Tech Ascension Awards.

Michal Lewy-Harush, CIO, Tufin:

How has the women workforce in cybersecurity evolved over recent years? Where is it heading?

Women workforce in cybersecurity has significantly evolved over the past few years both in terms of the number of women in key roles in this industry as well as the number of women entrepreneurs that inspire others to lead and succeed.

What advice would you give to young women looking to enter into cybersecurity?

Begin with the end in mind. Get clear on where you want to be and what you want to do a few years from now. Then surround yourself with talented and smart people and women that can inspire you and that you can learn from.

Pamela Cyr, Senior Vice President of Business and Corporate Development, Tufin:

How has the women workforce in cybersecurity evolved over recent years? Where is it heading?

There has been very strong momentum for women in cybersecurity, especially over the last 10 years or so. Although it is still very male dominated in most roles, women have become more visible and “en mass” across all cybersecurity disciplines. I fundamentally believe women are exceptionally well suited to excel in cyber, and my belief is that over the next 10 years, we will see the numbers truly start to harmonize and equal out with our male colleagues.

What advice would you give to young women looking to enter into cybersecurity?

Persistence, perseverance and focus. Set your path and go for it, PLEASE don’t second-guess yourself. You may face some headwinds, but trust your gut, and stay focused on your goal. It’s a tremendous space, we have the opportunity to make things better across all industries. It’s a very gratifying space to work.
